Say goodbye to pain

7:03 AM

PERIOD pain, stomach cramps, acne, breast tenderness, water retention ... these are some of the common symptoms experienced by thousands of woman around the world on a monthly basis.

These symptoms are medically termed as premenstrual syndrome or PMS. Below are some of the common questions asked about PMS.

» What is PMS?

PMS are symptoms linked to the menstrual cycle. It usually occurs a week or two before the period or menstruation cycle occurs. Once the menstrual cycle begins, the symptoms will normally go away. Although PMS symptoms are not life-threatening, they are a monthly problem faced by women worldwide.

» What causes PMS?

To date, it is unclear as to what causes PMS symptoms. However, most physicians believe it is caused by an over-abundance of oestrogen hormone. For many women, the symptoms may seem unbearable. It is unknown as to why some women may be badly affected while others only endure minor symptoms.

» What are its symptoms?

There are over 150 symptoms of PMS, making it a difficult condition to be diagnosed by a doctor. Some of the common symptoms include acne, breast swelling and tenderness; feeling tired all day long; insomnia; stomach upset such as bloating, constipation or even diarrhoea; headache or backache; stomach cramps; anxiety attack; irritability; and muscle aches.

» Who suffers from it?

According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, at least 85% of women between the ages of 12 and 45 suffer from at least one PMS symptom in their monthly cycles.

» How to relieve the symptoms?

PMS is caused by the wild fluctuations in the oestrogen hormone prior to menstruation. One way of relieving symptoms is to correct this hormonal imbalance.

Genistein is a natural alternative for "balancing the female hormones" as it is extracted from soy.

Medically known as phytoestrogens because of its structural similarity to the female hormone, genistein is able to regulate any imbalances in oestrogen level that may potentially upset a woman’s normal body system.

This makes genistein an ideal choice to balance out wild hormonal fluctuations, resulting in a more tolerable monthly cycle, thus reducing the severity of period pains and cramps.

It is recommended to take at least 20mg of Organic Genistein daily to prevent PMS.
